rbx4 rates this game: 4/5Shingen the Ruler is a strategy game in the same vein as Koei's series of "unite this or that country" games. The difference is that this game is from Hot B, and it is made to appeal to a slightly wider audience. This is actually a huge difference, as the game is more playable and accessible. The downside is that it is also very easy to win, even easier once you realize which dumb mistakes will be committed by the computer. This is an adequate game for gaining an appreciation of Japanese history, but it is best for when you really need a win or two under your belt for the day.
For instance, it is quite possible to win most battles without losing any of your troops. It's a bit cheesy to use certain tactics, such as Headquarters troops baiting, but you can have perfect wins without even resorting to cheese. The game focuses on the importance of firearms in this period of wartime history, and investment in Riflemen will be rewarding. This game has something of a sense of humor, and is a very worthy strategy game. No multiplayer version, sadly.
