Zork The Great Underground Empire (1980)(Infocom) Game

 
You find yourself stuck in the middle of a forest with a stange mailbox in front of you and an even stranger house. Upon searching the house you run across a trap door, upon entering you find yourself in the great underground empire where you fight off beasts and explore the deep dark undergrounds. You're goal is to find the twenty treasures of Zork and place them in the empty trophy case in the house. Upon completion you gain enterence to a stone barrow that ends the game. 
 
The game takes into onsideration the number of moves you take to get to the end and the number of treasures you collect to give you a score out of 350, where all treasures collected yields a score of 350. The game has no visuals, using only text to interact with the world. While this makes some parts of the game very tedious and annoying, like the maze, it is well implemented and you can use various natural commands to progress through the game.

wait
 
and many other inputs can be used to do various interactions. 
 

This game... This game is THE game.

Seriously, if you haven't played this, you're missing out on the best that text adventure games have to offer.

Some say that this game is nothing more than a glorified scavenger hunt, but they're wrong. It's not really about collecting items, but about the time you spend getting them. You have to use your brain for this one, you're gonna get lost if you don't.

Like all text adventure games, you're going to want to make a map of the areas you find (they have some good ones online if you don't feel like it). After that, the game is up to you. You can go collect treasures to store in the cabinet, or you can go and mess around with different commands. Text games are the ultimate sandbox games.

After you progress far enough, you're gonna run into the reason this game didn't get a 5/5... a roaming enemy. This dude can appear anywhere after released, and he's tough as nails. You won't even stand a chance until nearly done.

You probably don't understand a bit of what I just said, but you will when you play it. This is a review, not a walkthrough.
