Darkeraser rates this game: 1/5The Wizard of Oz is an extremely broken video game which should not have been released. I could give several paragraphs why, but i will focus it down to three things.
1. Useless weaponry. You cant attack upwards or downwards, and neither can the other charactors. the only projectiles you get, you wont ever get enough of. you find too little, and the enemys are too numerous for it to be any use. As an example, imagene if in contra, you only had 10 shots. and you got shots back from small boxes you got by killing enemys, but it only gives back 4 shots when it takes 6. Its just not fair.
2. Unfair controls. Its hard to explain this one. You fall through platforms that you would swear on your mothers grave that you landed ontop of it! The river and gem levels are the absolute worst of all, because they are platforming levels, and you fall through the ground at the most obscene of times! To make it worse, some of the platforms you have to jump on are part of the background, like a small purple hourglass concealed behind a clock, or a fence that is technically part of the background.
3. Weird enemys. Some moments of the game are memorable, such as the yellow brick road, and the emerald city, but most of it was made up on the go as filler for a video game. and like the background objects, some of the creatures sitting far back like mice WILL hit you. And fire. Torches hurt you too so stay away from those. Expecially background torches.
This game is unfair to the max, a perfect example of "The computer is a cheating bastard.", and quite possibly a good nominee for the Nintendo Hard Hall of Fame.
