Game Description & Reviews:
skweebl rates this game: 3/5In the distant future, water covers the entire planet. Energy is scarce, so many men make a living as "diggers" - explorers who make a living plundering ancient machine ruins for power-giving refractors. Mega Man and his adoptive family are diggers. After their ship crash lands on Kattelox Island, they find pirates threatening to attack the island in search of clues pertaining to the Mother Lode - a legendary refractor said to give unlimited energy. Naturally, Mega Man makes it his business to thrwart the pirates and solve the mystery of a disaster that's rumored to strike the island.
When everybody was clamoring for a Mega Man game on the Playstation, this isn't quite what we were expecting. This isn't a typcial side-scrolling "run and gun" Mega Man fare. It's actually a 3D hybrid of action, platforming, and even some light RPG elements. You explore a large interconnected series of ruins below the island looking for treasure, fight off the pirates in spectacular boss fights, and search for clues about the Mother Lode and this supposed disaster.
It's quite a good game. Finding all the secrets in the ruins is fun, the story is entertaining (even if the voice acting is atrocious), and there are plenty of weapons and other upgrades to find. It's far from perfect; the graphics are somewhat ugly, the music is a mixed bag at best, and the controls make combat clunkier than it has to be. Overall, it's not bad, but only dedicated Mega Man fans will probably "dig" this one.
Vince rates this game: 5/5Quite possibly the most derivative Mega Man title ever, Legends introduced us to a world covered by endless water, in which the most common way of earning a living is by exploring underground tunnels. This exploration becomes an important part of the game, with all of the Sub-Gates on the island being linked by such tunnels. The 3D gameplay really works (unlike the later Mega Man X7), and the story is beautiful. This game really does not get the respect it deserves.
Slinky McAwesome rates this game: 5/5For most people, this is considered the Black Sheep of the Megaman Family. But if they shyed away from it because of the vast differences for the more normal Megaman games, they missed out on a Great Title.
While it did away with the whole Eight Robot Masters Formula, it went for a much more customizeable experience. You can find parts to upgrade your Megabuster, increasing its Range, Power, Speed, etc. You also find Blueprints for other special weapons and must actually go out and explore the mines to find the parts to make and upgrade them.
So while it is a castly different experience from pretty much every other Megaman game in existance, it is definetly worth a play through, you won't be disappointed.
Zero Aurion rates this game: 5/5In my opionion, the Megaman Legends series is onew of the best video game series ever. It may be different from all the other Megaman games, but that's what makes it awesome. I've been playing Megaman Legends since it first came out. The only time that it wasn't in my possesion was when i had to look for this game for 5 yrs, b/c i couldnt use ebay, and Gamestop decided to stop selling old games just bnecause they were "too old". I hate hunting things down, cant even spend 5 min,. trying to find something in my own room, so the fact that i was looking for this game for 5 yrs, should say how awesome this game is.
