neilencio rates this game: 4/5This is probably the only Motocross game on the PSX that has aged really well. For one thing, it runs smooth as silk @ 60 frames per second (whereas the other PSX motocross games tend to have choppy animation, which really ruin the experience when coupled with the psx's low resolution).
Another thing that makes Championship Motocross 2001 good is the fact that the track selection is varied and features locations that don't look similar to each other (for example, while one track is predominantly lightbrown and green due to sand and grass, another track is dark brown and gray due to mud and dirt).
The controls are also noteworthy. They're not deep enough to be considered as a simulation, but it does the job well enough to ensure that bad turns, awkward landings, and collisions have consequences. As opposed to the other motocross games from its generation, which had piss-poor physics.
If you're emulating this game and have a decent videocard, try to use Pete's OGL2 plugin. With the right settings, you can make this game look like an early PS2 title.
