MasterV rates this game: 4/5Castlevania Chronicles then. If you were expecting an advnture in the vein of Sympohny of the Night, you'd be mistaken. Instead this is a "remake" of the original Castlevania, which came out on the MSX many ages ago.
As such,it is the classic side-scroller action game that you may or may not remember from your youth, depending on your age. Go from left to right, whip enemies, collect power ups for yourwhip, sub-weapons and hearts to use them and die a lot.
This is one tough game, however not unfairly hard. You can make it through if you're careful, which is something many recent "hard" games can't boast. Even though it's easier than the original it's still challenging and fun.
That said, the game has a few extras. The graphics have been spruced up, though they don't look as good as Castlevania 4 for some reason, there's a new FMV intro sequence, remastered music, an interview of Koji Igarashi and a second game mode.
That mode is "Arrange Mode" and has Simon's original sprite replaced by a newer one, resembling his form from the game cover. There's remixed background music and some slight changes, which aren't very noticeable.
All in all, if you cdesperately crave some old-school Castlevania action, give this one a spin and you won't be disppointed.
