This game was the first attempt made by capcom to bring the world of Resident Evil into the multiplayer market, unfortunately it did not sell that well and the servers were shut down leaving single player the only option that worked.
You must attempt to survive through a host of scenarios with as many of your AI friends as possible. (the more you save the more points you have to spend on extras later) each scenario is ideally the homeground of a different survivor.
Unlike in previous R.E titles zombies can beat doors down and the game does not pause when you access your inventory and as such you will need to keep a survivor near you to be safe.
I would advise anyone that is new to the R.E series or is unsure about the game to try playing as Kevin first as he starts the game with a .45 pistol.
Pros

More realistic than other titles.
More range in weaponry.
One button to reload.
Tonnes of unlockables.
Two AI characters with you.
Specific bonuses for characters.
AI's are like walking safeboxes

Cons

No network coverage since 2009
AI characters are very dumb
Locations changed to suit Capcom's whims
%100 checklist is very hard for first timers
Some characters dislike each other
Infection meter rushes you

As you can see the cons are minor and the pros outnumber them. 
I'd personally give this game an 8/10 score.
