Bouken Danshaku Don - The Lost Sunheart (Japan) ROM

This is a side scrolling shooter in the style of Gradius. The differences between this and other in the genre is it is not super hard at first, You have multiple chances to take damage before you are wiped out, and the bosses seem to be the only place where gun upgrades can be obtained (Save the first one mid stage 1) If you do get wiped out, on stage 3 for example, you keep the weapon upgrade you won from the bosses of stages 1 and 2, and can freely choose which you'd like to use by accessing the pause menu. All ships including your own move slowly as does enemy fire, so in earlier stages it's easier to dodge incoming attacks. This changes, however as the levels advance, and the game can be quite challenging in later stages. Fans of the genre and casual gamers alike should give this a try.
