Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is a 2D action platform game with a design that focuses more on building combos and collecting bananas for higher scores than surviving through an obstacle course. The first Donkey Kong game internally developed by Nintendo since 1994, it is also the only DK game starring Donkey Kong as the protagonist that Nintendo developed.

DKJB has no real connection to the DK Country series. Every enemy and character (apart from DK) is new to the DK brand. The game's worlds and character designs also feature Nintendo's unique and gorgeous type of psychedelia. The player gains combos by performing different moves, jumping off various obstacles and defeating enemies while never landing on the ground. The combo system makes timing important which gives the game a rhythmic feel.

----Jungle Beat is one of the best Donkey Kong games, and one of the best and most addicting 2D platformers of the previous decade. Best played with the DK Bongos controller (really, it makes a huge difference).
