Captain Planet and the Planeteers (USA) ROM

Captain Planet and the Planeteers is hard to describe. It's a vehicle game (like Cobra Command) and then goes to kind of a platformer except you fly. The difficulty level changes from ABSURD to absolutely fun between the two.

Gameplay is split between controlling a vehicle (containing the Planeteers) through part of a level and controlling Captain Planet to finish the level. The vehicle is flying/sub depending on the level and it's just SO HARD to play. I hated every second of it. One touch from any object and you're dead but it's not avoidance only, you do have projectiles. However, the reward from that horrible gameplay is playing the Captain Planet part of the level which is SO FUN. You get to become the elements to destroy/get past obstacles like a fireball, a blob of water, etc and you fly the whole time.

I found the graphics to be interesting, varied, and detailed.

BGM and SFX were decent.

Overall, this game pretty much sums up the show. The Planeteers are mostly useless and have difficulty with anything until they summon up the over-powered god, Captain Planet, to go wave his hand and save the day. Worth a try, I think.
