Bonk's Adventure (USA) ROM

A really fun platformer!

Controls are simple but robust. You have jump and headbutt. Headbutt can be used while jumping to provide a slower fall as well as damage while in mid-air. You can 'climb'...with your teeth. Yeah, pretty cool. If you find some meat you become 'enraged' and your attacks are stronger including a ground slam when you land while headbutting. At its most powerful, you will gain superspeed and either invunerability or your body damages enemies. Overall, the controls and mechanics are enjoyable.

Graphics are cute and most things are discernable.

Sound is average but not annoying.

Gameplay consists of typical platform side-scrolling as you avoid or kill enemies to get to the end of the level. There are several level types including vertical, air, and water. There are also bonus levels that reward you for your button mashing skills like 'how many spins can you get before hitting the ground'. Attacks connect well with enemies and there are variable ways to defeat them. Some, you need to simply jump on while most need a headbutt. Some can be butt upward while others will hurt you if you jump up into them. These variable enemy weaknesses and level types provide satisfying, unique gameplay including the way you enter some levels...poor dinosaur...

Overall, I had a good time playing this game!
