World Ends With You, The (U)(SQUiRE) ROM

An RPG that lets you move to your own beat, The World Ends With You is overflowing with features. Featuring a real time battle system, you guide Neku with the stylus and send balls of flame or other spells with similar slashes and swipes. Anyone who might be worried about misreads of the stylus fear not! Each attack has a different way of activating. For example: Slash enemy, or rapidly tap ground. Now these moves are different enough so that the DS doesn't confuse them. As for moving Neku you have to place the stylus on him and drag away so the game will know you're not attacking.
The game lets you have multiple spells equipped at once. What if you wanted to equip two slice enemy spells? No Problem! You put the spells in order of which you want to activate first until its cooldown occurs. If that's not enough if you want to switch between them mid-battle there's also a solution. You can set a spell to the sub category. This means you have to hold "L" to activate it in battle, but it will stop all main spells from activating, easy right?
One of the more beautiful things of this game is there are no random battles. You push a button on the screen to "scan" and all enemies show up on the screen. You then pick which one you want to fight. It doesn't stop there though. The game slowly introduces you to new concepts to keep the game fresh and not over inform you.
One of these features is the level lowering. You can decide to lower your level before a fight. Why would you do that? The greater the challenge equals greater rewards. There's also chaining where you do multiple fights in a row without healing.
There are many other neat ways to customize this game and play it how you see fit, but I'm sure you don't want to read a novel. The best way to learn about this game is experience it!

Excellent music and storyline, one of the most innovative battle systems I've seen, even if it can cause some fustration for new players. A completely immersive world that keep you begging for more and has a true incentive to keep playing after the main storyline finishes.

The World Ends With You is an exciting new title developed exclusively for the Nintendo DS handheld system. Previously known as Subarashiki Kono Sekai on its release in Japan, The World Ends With You is an innovative new title from Square Enix that fully utilizes the capabilities of the Nintendo DS, and takes major influence from Japan's modern day culture including its people, music, clothes, food and design.

The beginning of the game is quick and straight to the point. Neku Sakuraba dislikes people, and he sure as hell doesn't love living in Shibuya. The headphone-donning teenager soon gets a sharp wake up call, as he soon finds out that he's playing the Reapers Game, and if you lose the game, you lose your right to exist.

The story is fantastic. The gameplay, well frustrating at times, can lead to a fun time.

Important: when you play this game on a flash card, you will likely experience a freeze during the first cutscene after your first battle. You'll know what I'm talking about when you come up on it... No, it's actually not anti-piracy! I read somewhere that it has something to do with the way it tries to clear memory or something... Anyway, to get past this...
Just keep on opening and closing the DS and putting it in and out of sleep mode until you get past the part that freezes.  This worked for me the first time I tried playing this game, and has worked for many others. :)
That was important, but now for my description!
This game is very hard to get into unless you really give it a chance, and the battle system can take a lot of getting used to. That aside, once you get into how to do things, the game is incredibly immersive, allowing for simultaneous battle on both screens (THAT'S that part that takes getting used to!).
Square-Enix and Jupiter made the game. 'Nuff said. (Jupiter is the company behind the Pokemon Pinball games. I don't remember what else, but suffice it to say that they make fun games)
With all the hype it gets (and with the above fix mentioned), you might as well try it out, right?

The World Ends With You is my favorite game. Hands down, bar none, this is the best game I've ever played. The immersive world, fluid and fast-paced battles, and storyline that refused to let go drew me into this world and years after its release I still play it. I highly recommend this game to anyone and have given copies of it to many first-time DS owners in my life.
TWEWY has the very stylistic art style characteristic of Tetsuya Nomura's work, but in this setting it works extremely well. It also has an unorthodox soundtrack, but again, in this setting it's absolutely perfect. This is one of the few games motivated me to pick up the soundtrack, as the music never lost its charm on me. Just on its level of polish, this is an amazing game.
The combat system is something many people either love or hate. It can be tricky for some to pick up (controlling characters on the top and bottom screen simultaneously takes some practice, hand-eye coordination, and peripheral vision) but I personally never had that problem. If you can manage the somewhat-tricky combat mechanisms, prepare to experience some of the most amazing combat to be found on a handheld system. The combat system in TWEWY is extremely easy to alter. Simply change out the pins equipped to your character (yes, pins) and you can create a playstyle that suits your abilities best. Draw across the touchscreen to create a wall of fire, tap your enemy to rain bullets upon them, slash them up, or evens shout at them through the microphone -- TWEWY makes excellent usage of the NDS hardware.
The amount you can do within TWEWY is amazing. The sheer number of clothes to shop for, pins to locate, enemies to defeat, food to devour, and shoopkeepers to befriend are dazzling. You can wage war in the Tin Pin minigame against local kids, you can search for Pig Noise to defeat (easier said than done) for the rarest pins, and you can read the minds of all the people passing by on the street. You can eat lunch, too, and the best part is that all these things benefit you. Clothes give you combat bonuses if you're brave enough to wear them, food will augument your stats, and Tin Pin... well, Tin Pin's just fun.
Battling makes you stronger, too. As you battle, you level up, your pins level up, and you get more pins and experience. One of the cool things about TWEWY is that you are able to grow and evolve your pins -- battle with them in your deck, and they might evolve. But not all pins grow through battles; some grow by interacting with other Players through Wi-fi, and others will evolve if you ignore the game.
TWEWY is one of the only games I've ever played that actually rewards you for taking a break!
And for making things harder for you. In TWEWY, your level also acts as a slider. You can intentionally handicap yourself by lowering your level in TWEWY, but the payoff is a higher drop rate for the rarest pins, so it makes the trouble oh so worthwhile.
But the real draw of The World Ends With You doesn't even lie in it's amazing combat and feature-rich gameplay (to me, at least.) No, the truly amazing thing about TWEWY is its moving, haunting plot. You come to care about the people you meet throughout this game, and what happens to them. At every new twist, the next frustration, you see asshole protagonist Neku grow into a less-horrible human being, and you see the plot grow darker and begin to unfold, until you finally reach the end and see everything laid bare in all its shocking, heart-wrenching glory. This plot will stick with you, and so will the characters -- for me, that is a game's true strength.
TWEWY is the best game I've ever played, and I'd love to see this game get the recognition and appreciation of other big-name Square Enix titles. It's a truly unique, innovative, and memorable game, and I hope you give it a try. It will NOT disappoint.

Whoa.... This game blew me away when I first started it Not very high quality graphics... But if you are a real RPG fan then this game is the best for you... Amazing story line and a very good moral lesson in this game. I do not get impressed with games so easily but trust me guys this game truly ROCKED my world. So I suggest you play it enjoy it!
