MasterV rates this game: 4/5The old favourite. Gauntlet Legends is the N64 port of the arcade game, and quite a game it is! It is a high-fantasy themed hack&slash game in which you and up to 3 more friends gain control of a character (Warrior, Wizard, Archer and Valkyrie) and search th lands for the means to open the gate to the lair of the demon who terrorizes the wolrd of Gauntlet, Skorne.
The game offers some old-school hack &slash action over the spans of about 46 stages, themed around Canyons, mountains, castles, cemeteries, towns and everything in between. There's lots of power-ups to collect hidden characters to unlock and vistas to enjoy.
The graphics are quite well made and clear, and the isometric view is handy for keeping track of your progress through the stages. The music is excellent as are the sound effects.
All in all, this is an excellent game as a 1-player experience but get some friends and you're in for an adventure that you'll all enjoy and remember....if you can find an way to emulate it correctly that is.
Mystics Apprentice rates this game: 4/5I got this game simply because it was on the clearance rack, and really didn't expect it to be any good due to the price. I was quite pleasantly surprised.
This is just like any other game in the Gauntlet series. You have a variety of different characters to choose from, and your object is to make it through all of the various courses alive.
It's basically like an action/adventure game. You have an hp meter and with the more monsters you destroy, the more exp points you earn and you level up after so many exp points. There is also GP in the game, where you can go to purchase additional items or hp if you're low. One of the best things about this game is that it can easily be converted to having 2-4 players. And the more players you have, the more exciting it gets!
I was actually quite impressed with this game. There is a lot of constant action/fighting going on, so if you're not into trying to walk through a storm of monsters hitting the A button constantly, this might not be the game for you.
