Civilization is a strategy game, where the player has to build and maintain an empire. The game begins in 4000 BCE and can last through to 2100 CE. The player can choose from a number of civilizations to play as, like the Romans, Aztecs, Mongols, etc. Unlike later games in the series, these civilizations aren't too different from each other. Micromanagement is an important feature of the game, although it's not as important as in some other simulation games.
