Battlemaster is a top down action RPG where players gather groups of troops to take on various dungeons. The controls are surprisingly sparse as players are limited to melee and projectile attacks. There are a large variety of classes to choose from that can add replay value to new playthroughs as players have the option to be either a human, elf, dwarf, or orc all with four sub classes (thief, warrior, wizard, and merchant). Players can collect money to spend on equipment and perks to help them along the way. There is a decent amount of enemy variety in the game as well. While the game isn't particularly bad, some of the more advanced mechanics like what certain classes and races can do better than others aren't immediately obvious through simply playing the game. There are also instant death traps as well, but you are allowed to continue on the stages you die at. The result is an intriguing retro dungeon crawler for fans of games like Diablo that requires a lot of trial and error to get into.
