Matt Hoffman's Pro BMX ISO

Sony Playstation / PSX PS1 ISOs

Rating: 4.3/5

Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX was released by Activision in May of 2001, following the success of the "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater" series. It features the same game engine and many similar gameplay mechanics, simply reworked for bicycles instead of skateboards. As in THPS, performing tricks and combos earns points. Earn enough points to fill up a Special Meter, and several complicated, but high-scoring, moves will be unlocked, varying per character. Bails (falling off the bike) will cause the loss of all points in the current combo, and reset the Special Meter back to its start. Each of the six regular levels has five objectives, "magazine covers." There are a high score, a super score, a hidden magazine, T-R-I-C-K letters to collect, and five of a level-specific object. There are also two competition levels, where the player must compete for the highest score in three rounds against AI scores to earn a medal. The game also includes a Park Editor to make custom levels with hundreds of pre-made objects such as rails, ramps, and bowls. The game was received favorably, with an 80% approval rating from Metacritic and GameRankings, and a sequel was released for PlayStation 2 a year later.
