Lunar Silver Star Story is another JRPG that got a wonderful English localization curtesie of the now defunct Working Designs. Having played this game from beginning to end, I could safely say that this is one of my favorite JRPG's of all time. The story, while being a generic save the world kind of story, has enough twists and turns to keep players engrossed in its world for hours without outstaying its welcome. Aside from that, it has a memorable cast of characters with Ghaleon being one of the best villains in JRPGS (at least for me). Aside from being the main villain, he manages to be a sympathetic character with believable motivations for doing villainous things. Gameplay is pretty much your run of the mill JRPG thing with 2d characters and backgrounds, turn based battles, magic, towns- pretty standard JRPG stuff. What makes it stand out from most JRPG's is how deep and memorable the characters were and still are and how polished and well realized the game's world is. Plus, it has a very top notch localization thanks to Working Designs. For me, a JRPG's biggest strength should be in its story; the gameplay could be cookie cutter but if the story compels me to finish it from beginning to end, in my opinion it has done its job. And for that reason, I strongly recommend Lunar Silver Star Story to new and veteran fans of JRPGs.
