Developed by Sega-AM2, this game was made with the Ace Combat formula in mind. Gritty, full of detail and with a sweetspot between arcade and simulation. The game retells both the Anime and Movie storylines as you take control of an alternative character taking part in every major skirmish. The game features the original voice cast of the anime and digitized versions of the anime and movie soundtrack with Lynn Minmay's songs at key story moments. The game is single-player only with both simple and simulation control options. The game is a dimension ahead of Robotech Battlecry in every respect and to this day the most faithful Macross game ever made. Matched only by Macross Ultimate Frontier on the PSP. The game is only in Japanese and was never localized, but the game is straight forward in it's execution as the mission flow and objectives are well represented in the hud. In terms of understanding the story if you saw the anime and movie, you practically know everything that is being said.
