Saga 3: Jikuu no Hasha - Shadow or Light also known as Saga 3: Rulers of Space and Time - Shadow or Light, is a DS remake of Final Fantasy Legends 3 for the GameBoy. While Final Fantasy Legends 1 is the first game in the Mana series Final Fantasy Legends 2 and 3 are part of the Saga series; namely the second and third installments respectively. Unlike Legends 3 this version of the game has more traditional Saga mechanics such as, learning skills at random based on your equipped weapon, increasing stat points based on actions took in combat, and monster sprites on the field in place of random battles to name a few. With the move to the more randomized / situational stat increases and skill acquisition the game requires a bit more grinding, and is far more challenging than its older GameBoy counter part. Skills and stats are not guaranteed like in more traditional JRPGs. This can be frustrating, but it also means no 2 playthroughs will be the same. Though this remake was never released outside of Japan there is a mostly complete fan made English translation to be found in the rom hacking community. Like all the other Saga games I have played this is a well made RPG that is worth playing. If you like Square's well established formula and you are craving something different with a hint of familiarity give it a try.
