M.A.M.E. - Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator / MAME 0.184 ROMs

Rating: 5/5

The game is meant to be played by up to three players. Each player's controls consists of three buttons: red (or left hand side/end), green (or middle, not en "end" button), and blue (or right hand side/end). There is no joystick or other controls used in the game. The game consists of seventeen fairly brief challenges requiring pressing of the correct button in response to something going on on the screen. Each stage has a requirement to reach based on the objective for the stage or you lose one of three starting lives. Pass or fail a stage, the game progresses to the next stage. The game keeps track of which stages you passed and displays the results (for all three players) at the end of stage seventeen where the game ends regardless of lives left at that point. Stage 1 displays a large stack of bricks, each one either red, green, or blue. Your objective is to press the button that corresponds with the brick on the bottom to eliminate that brick, and get through all the bricks in the stack that way. Stage 2 displays three people, two are alike except for color. Your objective is to choose the odd person out. Stage 3 has you alternating between end buttons as quickly as you can to simulate eating noodles quickly. Simply about speed. Stage 4 has a monster of one of the colors attacking with you pressing the button of the same color as quickly as possible to kill it. Stage 5 is a race course filled with stationary obstacles. You are moving forward in one of three lanes, press the end buttons to move to a lane in either direction. Stage 6 (unknown objective) Stage 7 is about spacial orientation. You see a person put into a box before the box is closed. Then the box is flipped or rotated a few times. Your job is to keep track of how the person would be oriented when the box stops flipping/rotating inside the box (where their head would be, and toward or away from you). Push the button that corresponds with the correct orientation when the box stops. Stage 8 has three vertical bars down the length of the screen and a heart at the top of one of them. A line is drawn connecting two of the vertical lines. The heart will travel down a line until it comes to an intersection for a new route to an adjoining vertical line at that point. You're supposed to guess which vertical line the heart will drop off the bottom of the screen from following those rules. Stage 9 (unknown objective) Stage 10 has you making different burgers with three to six random ingredients. Red is cheese, green is lettuce, and blue is a pattie. Just build the burger in the same order as the example. Stage 11 passes two letters through a narrow gap quickly. You're supposed to pick with the buttons which of the three groups of two letters was passed between the gap. Stage 12 has three colored lights lighting up in a certain sequence. You're supposed to remember the sequence and mimic it using your buttons when the pattern is complete. The pattern will be longer each wave. Stage 13 has a head displayed at the top and a quickly spinning selection of various heads. You're supposed to press each of the three buttons to stop the spinning in each line and end up with the same head in the middle of each line matching with the head they displayed at the top. Stage 14 has three doors. The doors open up and there is a person behind them. You're supposed to "shoot" the person by pressing the button of the corresponding door if there is a gangster revealed, and not shoot if if's a civilian (much like Bank Panic). Stage 15 is another speed button smashing game. Just press the buttons "left, middle, right, middle" and repeat that sequence over and over and as quickly as possible to get the student to "dance". Stage 16 displays a man's face with an element missing. You're supposed to complete the face by pressing the button with the appropriate part(s) (left eye, right eye, nose, mouth...etc.) Stage 17 has balls of the three colors being hurled into the air above a city. You're supposed to press the buttons corresponding to the colors of the balls to trigger them to explode like fireworks over the city (I think you're supposed to wait until they've reached their max height before pressing the button, not just as they're taking off). All in all, it's a cute assortment of quick mini games that can certainly help some people with simple hand-eye coordination or speed/reflex training, and certainly more fun when played simultaneously with all three players. If you like this game, but prefer more thinking puzzles instead of reflex related mini games, give Tant-R, Ichidant-R, and Triple Fun a try.
